David Chaplin
David Charles Chaplin was born in the city of Norwich in 1947, the youngest of six children. Can Do Better is his first book, a memoir of his life and times working in Rwanda. In his own words, he had an undistinguished school career, attending both Town Close House and Leys School, Cambridge before going on to earn a degree in English from Durham University. After teaching at a number of secondary schools for seven years, he was appointed head teacher of Vinehall School, Robertsbridge, East Sussex, serving in the role for twenty-five years. After taking early retirement, he founded Rwanda Action in 2008 and served as Chief Executive Officer for fourteen years. He was awarded an OBE for services to the Republic of Rwanda in 2013. A father of three, he enjoys acting, theatre, golf and public speaking, and now lives in the village of Peasmarsh, East Sussex.
